Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination Training (Level 3)

The FREE Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination TRAINER Training class is intended for federal, tribal, state/province, and local agency employees, water managers, decision-makers, border/lake personnel, marina operators, concessioners, commercial boat transport operators, non-governmental organizations, lake owners’ associations, and other stakeholders.

Level 3 WID Trainers are leaders that are certified to train individuals to be Level 1 or Level 2 watercraft inspectors and decontaminators. The Level 3 course is most appropriate for federal, state/province, tribal, and local agency decision makers, AIS Program Coordinators and Managers, WID Station Supervisors, and authorized partners.

Eligibility requirements to be a Level 3 WID Trainer include:

  • Successful completion of a Level 2 watercraft inspection and decontamination course.
  • Performed at least 50 inspections according to the WID standards.
  • Performed at least 5 full decontaminations according to the WID standards.
  • Successful completion of an Advanced Decontamination class (optional).
  • A recommendation letter from a supervisor sent at least one week prior to class starting.

​Successful completion of a Level 3 WID Trainer’s course includes demonstrating:

  • a working knowledge of the WID Trainer’s Manual
  • a working knowledge of the WID Manual
  • a working knowledge of the UMPS IV
  • a working knowledge of the Advanced Decontamination Manual
  • an excellent understanding of how to apply the WID standard procedures
  • the skills and ability to effectively teach the Level 1 and 2 courses in both the classroom and practical hands-on sessions

Individuals with a Level 3 WID Trainer certification should leave the training prepared to teach professionals how to educate the public about AIS and how to perform both watercraft inspection and decontamination according to the national or regional science-based standards and procedures.​

Successful completion of the course will be based on demonstrated skills, knowledge, and attitude, plus a passing score of 70% or better on a quiz at the end of the course. A digital certificate will be emailed to participants upon completion.​

PSMFC reserves the right to refuse trainer certification to those that do not meet expectations.
